Anime is a style of animation/drawing originating from Japan. Most anime drawings include exaggerated physical features such as large eyes, big hair and elongated limbs.
Drawing an anime face in the same way that a professional does is something that you can learn to do at home too. With a little patience and practice, following these steps
will help you to achieve your desired anime drawing style.
To help with that challenge this tutorial provides a detailed breakdown of the drawing process. It includes an explanation of how to draw the head and each of the major
facial features to achieve a more “realistic” look.
Be sure to make light lines for the initial stages of the drawing so that you can easily erase parts of them later. The lines in the examples are dark simply so that you can
see them. You can go over your drawing with darker lines after you are sure everything is in the right place and after you erase all o the guide lines and parts of the face
that will be hidden by the hair.
Drawing manga-style male characters can be a bit more challenging than drawing female characters because there are usually more choices you can make. But the basic approach
is the same. You might already know that any anime/manga character is proportioned by counting the number of "heads tall" they are. In other words, a chibi character will
only be the height of 2 to 3 times the size of his or her head, and typical "cartoony" manga characters are usually 5 to 7 heads tall. More realistic (and occasionally
shoujo-style) characters are sometimes up to 8 heads tall. Keeping to these scales will assure your characters — male or female — look properly proportioned.
Let's begin!
